This week is School Resource Officer Appreciation Week! School resource officers play an important role in keeping our schools safe. At Dewar Elementary, we are blessed to have Deputy Kathi Bair. Deputy Bair focuses every day on protecting our students, teachers, and staff while also building positive relationships with everyone on campus. She serves as a mentor, role model, and trusted adult that students can turn to for help and guidance. She works hard to prevent problems before they happen and she is always there when we need her. Deputy Bair's kindness, patience, and dedication make a big difference in our school community. We appreciate all that she does to make Dewar a better and safer place for everyone! We love you and Deputy Bair!

The survey is modeled after the student survey that our students in grades 3-5 took in January. The deadline for completing the survey has been extended to March 21 , 2025. There are 22 questions and the survey can be completed on any device with access to the internet. Mrs. Niewoonder's class had enjoyed a new twist on their phonics lesson. As part of Fun Friday, students practiced word work using shaving cream! Afterward, they cleaned up and practiced using their new spelling pattern by writing sentences on their whiteboards.

Miss Ply’s class has been ROCKING opinion writing the past few weeks. Students have just finished their opinion writing on “Should Students Wear School Uniforms?” Once students finished their writing, they created a Canva presentation and shared their writing with their classmates! 📝

February 3-7 is National School Counselor Week! At Dewar Elementary, we are blessed to have two counselors, Jessica LeFiles and Shelley Smith, who give of themselves daily to help our students as well as our faculty and staff. We want to express our heartfelt appreciation for these ladies and their invaluable contributions. Ms. LeFiles and Ms. Smith help to foster a positive school environment with their understanding hearts and giving spirits. They support our students' emotional and academic well-being, and help guide them through challenges they may be facing. Their commitment to helping our students navigate their educational journeys while promoting mental health awareness is truly commendable. Thank you ladies for your tireless efforts and for making a lasting impact on so many lives.

Career Day Rescheduled Announcement We are excited to announce that Dewar Elementary School will be hosting Career Day on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about various careers and the paths individuals take to achieve their professional goals. Mrs. Morris and Mrs. Trina’s Kindergarten class celebrated 100 Days Smarter by counting to 100, making a 100 day monster, 100 day fitness challenge and eating 100 fruit loop cereal pieces. We are 100 days smarter at Dewar Elementary❤️

Mrs. Umpleby and Miss Hannah’s 3rd Graders made the most of the rare snowfall in South Georgia, enjoying a day of snowy fun right at school! ❄️ What a snow-tastic experience!❄️

Good Afternoon, Viking Family, We hope that you have stayed safe and warm and enjoyed the snow the past two days! We’ve been closely monitoring weather and road conditions following the winter storm and remaining in contact with Lowndes EMA, Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, and other local officials. As the snow and ice have began to melt from the roads and conditions have improved, we will be reopening all schools and system offices tomorrow, Friday, January 24th. We look forward to welcoming your student back to school tomorrow!
